What is SUP
Stand up paddle (SUP) is a unique sport.
Participants use a paddle and large stable SUP board and can paddle in any water location from the open ocean, coastal shores to far inland on lakes, rivers and canals.
SUP disciplines include flat water racing, open ocean racing, sup surfing, sup river rapids and even sup yoga.
SUP is not a surfing sport nor is it a canoe or surf ski sport. It’s a melding of all, with its own specialised equipment and skill and technique.
SUP might look like other sports. Basketball and netball look similar, for example, but each of these sports has its own unique equipment, skill and technique. It’s the same with Stand Up Paddle.
SUP must be represented by an 'independent' body who fully represents and understands in full clarity all of the sport’s varying diversifications.
If a surfing 'body' does so, this will allude to the sport being surf orientated. If by a canoeing 'body', this will allude to the sport being paddling orientated.
Stand Up Paddle is unique.
SUP Australia represents the unique interest of suppers.
